Archetypes & badges
Two people can reach the same score in completely different ways. Archetypes and badges capture the character of someone’s contribution, not just its size.
Archetypes
An archetype is the style of contribution a member is known for. dcRep assigns one primary archetype plus up to two secondary ones, based on the kind of activity that earns them score, and refreshes them periodically as patterns shift.
| Archetype | The kind of member who earns it |
|---|---|
| Helper | Answers questions and gets threads marked solved |
| Researcher | Shares resources, links, and long-form depth |
| Builder | Showcases work and shares code |
| Curator | Surfaces and organizes useful references |
| Mentor | Endorses others and guides newcomers |
| Connector | Sparks discussion and links ideas across channels |
| Anchor | A consistent, long-lived presence |
Archetypes are descriptive, never restrictive — they don’t change how you’re scored. They simply tell the story of how someone shows up, and appear on public profiles.
Badges
Badges are one-time achievements awarded the moment a member meets a milestone — things like answering a string of help questions, reaching a tier, or sustaining a long streak. Once earned, a badge is kept and displayed on the member’s profile. They’re a lightweight way to recognize specific accomplishments alongside the headline score.
